The Haida Gwaii Board of Education is delighted to announce that Lisa Bernoties McCullough will become the school district’s new Superintendent in the coming school year.

Lisa brings significant senior public-school leadership experience, having served as Superintendent of Schools for SD48 (Sea to Sky) for 10 years and in leadership roles at the Ministry of Education and Child Care. Lisa cares deeply about equity, and her work in the Sea to Sky School District earned her a BC Premier’s Award for Excellence in Education.

Lisa’s references shared many quotes, but this one stands out:

“I believe that Haida Gwaii School District will benefit from Lisa’s experience and love of being ‘hands-on. ‘ I also know she is deeply and genuinely excited about working on Haida Gwaii. Lisa is a one-in-a-million educational leader.”

Roeland Denooij, Vice Chair of the Board, commented, “The Haida Gwaii School District is very excited to announce Lisa as our new Superintendent. Her years of experience will position her for success as she leads our district during this exciting time for public education on Haida Gwaii.”

Lisa and the Board of Education worked together to convince the current Interim Superintendent to accept a part-time Deputy Superintendent role for the 2024-25 school to work alongside Lisa for the coming year. Lisa and Manu have been provincial colleagues for many years. The Board is excited that Manu will continue to stay connected to our district and work alongside Lisa to support the district’s strategic priorities.
