Water Testing


School District 50 Haida Gwaii worked with Northern Health to assess all sites. Following the testing, three sites were found to contain lead in the drinking water. The flushing program was developed between School District 50 and Northern Health. Tahayghen Elementary was found to have lead in one line going to the Gym. This line has since been replaced. Leaving only two sites.


Communication And Reporting


School District 50 Haida Gwaii worked with Northern Health to relay sample information to parents and stakeholders. Letters were sent home with students and circulated through the School District 50 Haida Gwaii website.

All supporting documents will be kept at the school district administration office.


Mitigation Strategy


  • All sites will be tested annually. Test results will be assessed after returned. Test results will be shared with the Northern Health Authority.
