Manu Madhok, Interim Superintendent of Schools, is pleased to announce that Leighann Rodger will be joining the district leadership team as the newly created District Principal of Early Learning and Childcare. Leighann is currently the principal of Sk’aadgaa Naay Elementary School but has been involved in various early learning initiatives over the last several years.

Leighann is an accomplished educator with fourteen years of experience with the Haida Gwaii School District. She began her career at K’ak’ot’lats’I School on the territory of the Quatsino First Nation before moving to Haida Gwaii in 2008. She has been a classroom teacher, a learning resource teacher, a vice principal and a principal and has provided district leadership for student support services for many years.

Leighann graduated from the University of Northern British Columbia in 2007 and completed her Masters Degree in Curriculum from the University of British Columbia in 2012. She has helped lead the ‘Changing Results for Young Readers’ project for SD50 and shared the district role of provincial outreach coordinator for the early years.

Manu Madhok commented, “Given the Ministry of Education & Childcare’s expanded role, we are fortunate to have an educational leader with Leighann’s experience take on this important work on behalf of Haida Gwaii families and pre-schoolers.”

Leighann will continue to provide leadership at Sk’aadgaa Naay Elementary until the district can find a replacement for her.
