START DATE:                             Effective October 15, 2018 to June 28, 2019

SALARY:                                   $25.31 per hour; $26.70 per hour with recognized formal Education Assistant training

HOURS OF WORK:                    Four (4) hours per day, five (5) days per week

 

The Education Assistant performs a variety of duties related to working with students and the preparation of teaching materials.  This position works under the supervision of the Principal and will in the course of duties take direction from individual teachers.

 

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 graduation preferably supplemented by courses in Special Education.
  • One to two years of formal training beyond graduation, in a field related to the assignment.
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language an asset.
  • Ability to work with a student in a one-on-one setting.
  • Ability to use courtesy and tact in the exploration and discussion of information with internal contracts.
  • Ability to use judgement in applying rules and procedures.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and task analysis techniques desirable.
  • Basic skills in computer operations.
  • Operate equipment such as photocopying machines, audiovisual equipment, typewriter, laminator and binding machine.
  • Recognize and respect the confidential nature of all information related to students, parents and staff.

CASUAL BUS DRIVER

SALARY:                                   $25.31 per hour

 

The Bus Driver is responsible for the operation of school buses used to transport students within the district and maintains the safety and cleanliness of the school buses. This position works under the supervision of the Maintenance and Transportation Supervisor and will in the course of duties take direction from Principals and individual teachers.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 graduation
  • Valid BC Class 2 or Class 4 Unrestricted Driver’s License
  • Related experience
  • Ability to interact with students in an effective manner.
  • Ability to apply, and may involve a choice of, established methods and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Physical capability to perform the job duties
  • To maintain a neat and tidy personal appearance while performing job duties.
  • Trained in WCB Level I First Aid or better, or the willingness to obtain the same
  • Willingness to obtain various training as directed by the Maintenance & Transportation Supervisor.

School is back in session for the students and staff of School District No. 50 (Haida Gwaii) on Tuesday, September 4, 2018.  The following times are in effect for Tuesday, September 4, 2018 only:

Gudangaay Tlaats’gaa Naay Secondary                 8:45 AM to 11:35 AM

Port Clements Elementary                                              9:00 AM to 12:05 PM

GidgalangKuuyas Naay Secondary                          8:45 AM to 12:30 PM

Sk’aadgaa Naay Elementary                                       8:55 AM to 12:00 PM

Tahayghen Elementary                                                   9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Bussing will be in effect for Opening day.  Return bussing will be adjusted to accommodate the above schedule.  Please monitor the district website for any amendments at www.sd50.bc.ca.

Performing Arts start at 3:30pm in the Performing House.
Art work will be up for approximately two weeks in the foyer of the Haida Heritage Centre.

Qualified applicants are being sought for the casual positions of Records Clerk and Administrative Assistant at Gudangaay Tlaats’gaa Naay Secondary and Tahayghen Elementary Schools. Grade 12 level of education is required. The salaries for these positions range between $23.46 and $28.30 per hour. Urgent Notice

Due to the recent passing of Chinnie William Robin Brown, the Board of Education’s Regular Board meeting will be postponed to provide Trustees and staff the ability to attend the funeral being held on October 23rd.   The board meeting will be held on October 30, 2017 at Sk’aadgaa Naay Elementary beginning at 6:00 PM.  The board sends our deepest condolences to Trustee Brown and his family.
