The Board of Education of SD 50 (Haida Gwaii) is inviting applications for the position of Superintendent of Schools/CEO. Duties to commence on July 16, 2019 or as mutually agreed.

The Position

Reporting to the Board the Superintendent is responsible for carrying out the duties as specified in the School Act Sec 22(1) and in Board Policy as amended from time to time.

The Candidate

The Board is seeking an individual with a breadth and depth of knowledge, skills and experience in providing leadership in diverse and remote educational settings. In addition to being a person of integrity and vision, you will possess excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and communication skills. You will have extensive experience working with Indigenous communities and specific knowledge of the Haida culture is considered an asset.

As a respected educator and leader you will collaborate with the Haida Nation, community partners as well as the broad education community to improve and enhance student success. While building on the strength of the communities on Haida Gwaii you will articulate a cohesive vision for the future of education. You are an engaged and ethical leader who has the demonstrated ability to create a safe and respectful learning environment for students, staff, parents and other stakeholders.

The Board of Education is committed to consultation and collaboration. You have the ability to build positive relationships and ensure that all voices are heard and valued. A strong working relationship with the Board of Education is vital and you will work effectively with the Board to realize the vision of the District.

You will possess successful broad-based leadership experience, including experience as a teacher, school based administrator and ideally a minimum of five years’ experience in senior education administration roles.

In addition, you hold a Master’s degree and are qualified for British Columbia teaching certification.

School Board meeting on Tuesday, February 26th at 6 PM

All Stakeholders are invited to attend the next Public School Board meeting on Tuesday, February 26th at 6 PM by videoconference at the District Administration Office in Queen Charlotte and at Gudangaay Tlaats’gaa Naay in Masset. Bus Incident January 16, 2019

A window was damaged on a school bus on January 15, 2019 at approximately 3:45 PM in the Miller Creek sub-division.  The reason for the break is currently being investigated, at this time we are able to confirm no firearms were involved, nor was anyone injured.  The bus driver was able to travel to all stops along its route and no bussing schedules have been impacted.

SALARY:                                   $25.31 per hour


The Bus Driver is responsible for the operation of school buses used to transport students within the district and maintains the safety and cleanliness of the school buses. This position works under the supervision of the Maintenance and Transportation Supervisor and will in the course of duties take direction from Principals and individual teachers.


  • Grade 12 graduation
  • Valid BC Class 2 or Class 4 Unrestricted Driver’s License
  • Related experience
  • Ability to interact with students in an effective manner.
  • Ability to apply, and may involve a choice of, established methods and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Physical capability to perform the job duties
  • To maintain a neat and tidy personal appearance while performing job duties.
  • Trained in WCB Level I First Aid or better, or the willingness to obtain the same
  • Willingness to obtain various training as directed by the Maintenance & Transportation Supervisor.
